Hobbs Man Arrested Following Brief Standoff

HOBBS, N.M. – A Hobbs man is behind bars following a brief standoff on Wednesday night.

Hobbs Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 1500 block of East Penasco in reference to an unwanted subject and possible domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived on the scene, it was learned that 27-year-old Katherine Villalobos was being held at gunpoint inside a home by 28-year-old Louis Garcia.

Officers attempted to make contact with Garcia but were unsuccessful and the Hobbs SWAT Team was called in.

After the SWAT team arrived, nearby homes were evacuated and negotiations began.

Soon after, Garcia surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Villalobos wasn't injured in the standoff.

Garcia was arrested and charged with kidnapping, felon in possession of a firearm and for outstanding warrants for battery against a household member and probation violation.
