BREWSTER COUNTY – A Brewster County Commissioner has announced his resignation.

According to the Brewster County, Texas, Facebook Page, Commissioner George Johnson resigned from his position effective immediately.

According to the post, Johnson sited reasons in his business and his life makes it impossible for him to give his full attention to the Commissioners Court.

The post also stated that there are no provisions in state law for a special election to fill a vacancy other than in conjunction with the date of the next general election.

County Judge Eleazar Cano has two options: appoint a Commissioner for Pct. 1 or wait over a year and a half for the November 2016 election.

Cano hopes to have the vacancy filled as soon as possible and if you want to apply for the vacancy, leave a resume with the Brewster County Judge's office.
