ODESSA – One man is behind bars on several charges following an incident in Odessa.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 2200 block of Rocky Lane in reference to a male subject yelling at vehicles as they were driving by.
When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with a man who matched a description that dispatch reported.
According to the report, while officers were talking with 33-year-old Kenny Carroll, he had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had trouble standing.
Officers later searched Carroll and found a bag of cocaine.
Police say that as they were taking the bag of cocaine out of Carroll's pockets, Carroll reached for and grabbed a hold of an officer's firearm and began trying to pull the firearm out of the officer's gun holster.
Officers immediately grabbed Carroll and took him into custody.
Carroll has been charged with attempting to take a weapon from officer, possession of cocaine and public intoxication.
