ODESSA – One dog was shot by Odessa Police on Wednesday morning.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 4600 block of Lemonwood for an alarm call.

The officers checked the doors and the gates of the residence to make sure the home was secure but they didn't enter the backyard.

That's when the officers walked through the front yard of the home, the dog charged at the officers and was shot.

Officials say the dog is expected to survive.
