BIG SPRING – A Big Spring substitute teacher has been accused of an improper relationship between an educator and a student.
Big Spring Police tell NewsWest 9, they received a call last week about the improper relationship between the victim and 22-year-old Tevian Parnell who worked as a substitute teacher.
According to a press release, evidence gathered showed that the improper relationship started with text messages between Parnell and the victim. Those messages would include inappropriate photos and messages.
Officials later learned that there was also a sexual relationship between Parnell and the victim.
When officers went to talk with Parnell about the accusation, Parnell gave a statement confessing to the improper relationship and he was later arrested.
Big Spring ISD has also released a statement to our radio partners, KBYG, in Big Spring, “"The Big Spring ISD is dedicated to protecting the safety of our students and staff. All prospective employees and volunteers are subject to criminal back-round investigation and thorough vetting. In the event that one of our employees is arrested, we work in cooperation with law enforcement agencies to assist those agencies with their investigations. With respect to the recent arrest of one of the BSISD substitute teachers, the individual has been removed from the district's list of eligible substitutes."
Parnell has been charged with improper relationship between educator and student, which is a second degree felony.
