Small Plane Crashes in Marathon

MARATHON – Two people were injured after a small plane crash in Marathon on Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 8:45 a.m.

According to the Brewster County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the small plane being piloted by a Marathon local and a passenger reported engine trouble shortly after takeoff.

They attempted an emergency landing in a field and the soft ground caused the nose of the plane to catch in the dirt, flipping the plane on its top.

The pilot and passenger were taken to Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine.

Officials say the injuries are not life-threatening.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
