Woman Tazed Following Incident in Odessa

ODESSA – One woman is behind bars following an incident over the weekend in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the High Plains Apartments in the 3700 block of Andrews Highway on Saturday in reference to a disturbance.

When officers arrived on the scene, officers made contact with a female subject who was holding a baseball bat. Officials say the woman appeared to be very upset and also appeared to be intoxicated.

According to the report, the officers told the woman to put the bat down but she refused and cursed at the officer.

That's when the woman, later identified as 21-year-old Olivia Maly, was tazed and detained.

Once Maly was detained, officers reported that they could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage from Maly's breath. She also had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

An investigation later revealed that Maly had grabbed her cousin by the throat causing the victim to not be able to breathe. She also hit the victim in the face.

Maly has been charged with assault by strangulation and public intoxication.
