REEVES COUNTY – An Odessa man is dead and two others were injured following a weekend accident in Reeves County.
The accident happened on Interstate 20 about five miles west of Pecos just after 9 p.m. Sunday night.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 when the driver saw an animal on the roadway and took evasive action to avoid the animal.
That's when the vehicle veered to the left, traveled across the roadway, went into the center median, traveled into the westbound lanes of traffic and began to roll.
Officials say as the vehicle was overturning, a passenger in the vehicle was ejected through the rear window due to not wearing a seatbelt.
That passenger, 18-year-old Joshua Lee Griffen of Odessa, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Jackie Scott of Odessa, and the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Francisco Carillo III of El Paso, were both taken to Reeves County Hospital for their injuries.
Both Carillo and Scott are currently listed in stable condition.
