ODESSA - A burglar in Odessa was scared off by a homeowner on Tuesday morning after firing shots.

Police say 35-year-old Jonathan McDonald was trying to break into a home in the 4900 block of Winchester.

He apparently didn't make it all the way into the home because he got scared off after gunfire rang out.

The woman told officers, McDonald first started knocking on the door.

She refused to answer it so he continued knocking.

The report says she went to the back door to make sure it was locked and that's when she saw McDonald reaching for the back door.

She grabbed a gun and fired off a warning shot in the air and told him to get out of her backyard.

McDonald ran off but was caught and arrested.

He told officers he was just going door to door asking for money.

Police also found out that McDonald had several warrants out for his arrest.
