McCAMEY- On September 24th 2006, Jesus Perez who was known as "Chuy" to friends and family around McCamey, was found unconscious right outside his home. Two months later he died from his injuries.

New evidence emerged from the Upton County Sheriff's Office that will hopefully get police one step closer to the killers and Perez's family couldn't be happier.

"All the people loved Jesus ," brother in law, Carlos Bejarano said.

When 50-year-old Jesus Perez was found by Upton County Sheriff Deputies, they say he had significant head trauma and never regained consciousness. Perez's sister and brother-in-law say the last eight and half years have been difficult to live without "Chuy".

The family says he had no enemies and don't know who would want to kill him.

"Who killed Jesus? I don't know," Bejarano said.

The family only has pictures of their brother, but deputies believe there is a break in this cold case.

"I think with the new evidence that has come to light we can get the case solved," Upton County Sheriff's Office Investigator, Dusty Kilgore said.

Kilgore couldn't reveal what that new evidence is.  However he says they are looking at every possibility to bring those responsible to justice.

"I think the first thing you try to establish is if the victim knew his killer. We're looking at all avenues and investigating all possibilities and I think we are getting one step closer," Kilgore said.

Kilgore tells NewsWest 9 that the Perez murder is the only unsolved murder in Upton County and the Sheriff's Office is hoping someone can come forward with information.

"Anyone that comes forward with information that leads to an arrest will receive a cash reward," Kilgore said.

Anyone with information on who could have killed "Chuy" is urged to call the Upton County Sheriff's Office at 432-693-2422
