ODESSA – A school name and mascot change is on the way to Hood Junior High School in Odessa.

Next August, Hood Junior High School will be named Wilson & Young Medal of Honor Middle School and the new mascot will be the Rangers.

The school was named after two Ector County ISD graduates who were killed in Vietnam and awarded the Medal Honor years after their deaths.

The school's colors will be slate gray, black and gold.

The school opened in 1960 as John B. Hood Junior High, named after Confederate Army General John Bell Hood. In August, before the start of this school year, a committee of community members recommended (and the school board approved) changing the name to memorialize the two local fallen heroes.
