PECOS COUNTY – A Sheffield, Texas, woman is dead following an early morning chase on Friday morning.

The accident happened on Interstate 10, near Fort Stockton just after 12:45 a.m.

DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, a 2014 Dodge Challenger was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. A Pecos County Sheriff's deputy pulled the vehicle over and as the deputy approached the car the driver fled the scene evading law enforcement by continuing to drive on the wrong side of the Interstate.

Soon after, the 2014 Dodge Challenger collided head-on with an 18-wheeler.

The driver of the Challenger, Lorrie Flores, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say the driver of the 18-wheeler, 39-year-old Alberto Garcia, was taken to the hospital and released.
