ODESSA – We have an update on the Permian High School situation that forced the team to forfeit their district title late last week.
According to a press release from the Ector County Independent School District, ECISD Superintendent Tom Crowe met with Permian High School Basketball Coach Danny Wright and the decision was made that Wright will not return as head coach next season.
However, the statement says that Wright will remain employed with ECISD. The exact position has not yet been determined but the change will allow him to continue work with students.
In a statement to NewsWest 9, Crowe said, “While this was a very difficult decision I feel it was best for Ector County ISD. And it's a good opportunity for Coach Wright to continue to have a positive impact on the youth of Odessa.
As you may recall, Permian had to forfeit their district title and playoff game after the school district found that two players on the team were ineligible during the district schedule.
Wright was put on administrative leave following the announcement.
