Melting ice is being blamed for power outages across several West Texas counties.
In a press release to NewsWest 9, Sharyland Utilities is reporting that approximately 100 residential and 1,700 commercial customers are without power as of 9 p.m. Sunday evening.
The outages are affecting customers in Glasscock, Howard, Martin, Midland, Reagan and Upton County.
Officials say ice had previously built up along the power lines on Friday and the warmer temperatures on Sunday caused the ice to melt and fall off the power lines in chunks causing the lines to bounce and put additional strain on power poles and wires.
According to the press release, there is no estimate on when power will be restored to all customers.
