ODESSA – The Permian boys basketball season has come to abrupt end after two players were found to be ineligible to play for the team.

According to a release by the Ector County Independent School District, "through a check of student grades, school district officials learned two players on the Permian High School boys' basketball team were ineligible during the district schedule. The district self-reported the situation to the University Interscholastic League and forfeited today's bi-district playoff game against Arlington Martin."

The statement goes on to say, "The players in question played in most of Permian's 10 district contests and it is expected the UIL will require those games and the district title to be forfeited, too."

We're told the district is already investigating the situation to find out how this happened and to determine what steps can be taken to prevent it from happening again.

Officials say they will not release any personal information about the students involved.

ECISD Athletic Director Todd Vesely tells NewsWest 9 Sports that Permian Head Coach Danny Wright has been placed on indefinite administrative leave.
