HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Jury selection is set to begin in the case of a Hobbs teen accused of gunning down a 16-year-old boy following a fistfight at a Hobbs teen hangout.
The Hobbs News-Sun reports the selection in the trial against 18-year-old DeAndre Gonzales is scheduled to start Tuesday.
He is facing a first-degree murder charge for the death of Daniel Garcia. Police say Garcia died of a single gunshot wound to the head in May 2014 outside a popular Hobbs teen hangout known as The Shop.
Gonzales' girlfriend, Santana Serrano - who was 17 at the time of Garcia's killing - was convicted as an accessory in December.
According to testimony in Serrano's trial, Gonzales got into a heated exchange with Garcia following the taping of a video at The Shop.
