Woman Arrested For Racing on a Highway

ODESSA - One woman was arrested for racing following an incident on Sunday in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to University and Englewood in reference to a major crash.

According to the report, a red 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, with two people inside, had been racing a white two door car eastbound in the 3800 block of East University.

The driver of the red Camaro was identified as 25-year-old Mayra Alejandra Chavez.

Chavez told police that while she was racing eastbound on University, the white two door car hit her Camaro causing her to lose control and hit an unattended vehicle before running into a brick wall.

Chavez also told police that the white two door car fled the scene of the accident.

A passenger in Chavez' car was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury.

Chavez is facing charges of racing on a highway.
