MIDLAND - Midland fire officials are investigating after two fires in Midland that occurred on Monday night and Tuesday afternoon.
The first fire sparked up in the 2100 block of College Street around 11:50 p.m. Monday night.
Officials tell NewsWest 9, fire crews arrived to find an active fire on the porch of the home.
The home sustained extensive fire, heat and smoke damage to the porch and the entryway of the home.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and the cause is under investigation.
The second fire sparked up Tuesday afternoon in the 3300 block of West Front Street at the Scottish Delight Motel.
When fire crews arrived on the scene, they found an active fire in an alley.
Witnesses told police that small fires were often started in the area by homeless individuals looking for warmth.
According to the report, investigators found the flames started from the mattresses and debris in the area and spread to the wall of the hotel. One room at the hotel sustained minimal damage.
