ODESSA - One man is behind bars on charges of aggravated assault following an incident in Odessa.
Odessa Police were called out to the 400 block of East 50th Street on Wednesday evening in reference to a disturbance.
As officers were responding, dispatch advised a male subject was attempting to attack another man with a knife.
When officers arrived on the scene, officers made contact with a 20-year-old male who advised that he and his brother had been in a fight.
The victim told police that 17-year-old Adriel Barrera had threatened him with a kitchen knife by pointing at him.
According the report, the victim reported that when he attempted to close a door to prevent Barrera from attacking him, Barrera hit the door multiple times with the knife.
That's when Barrera lunged forward towards the victim with the knife trying to strike him with the knife.
After police were able to detain Barrera, he told officers that he did have a knife and that he would have used it against the victim.
Barrera has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence).
The victim only sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was not taken to the hospital.
