ODESSA – One man is behind bars on numerous charges following an incident on Saturday afternoon.

Odessa Police observed a green 1997 Mitsubishi ran a stop sign at 23rd Street and Jackson and conducted a traffic stop in the 2100 block of North Jackson.

The front passenger in the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Albert Anthony Llanez.

According to the report, as police made contact with all the occupants in the vehicle, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming out of the vehicle.

Officers also saw Llanez to be in possession of a large bag of marijuana.

As officers attempted to place Llanez into custody for the marijuana, he took off on foot northbound on Jackson.

Officers caught Llanez a short time later but the story doesn't end there.

As the officers were attempting to place Llanez into custody a second time, Llanez pushed an officer and began running eastbound on 23rd Street and then southbound into an alley. Llanez then jumped over a chain link fence before running eastbound towards Hancock Avenue.

Officers later found Llanez hiding underneath a crawl space of a house in the 2100 block of North Hancock.

As Llanez was placed into custody, a bag of marijuana fell out of his pockets. A large Ziploc bag containing small individually packaged marijuana was also found as police were searching the vehicle.

We're told the packaged marijuana was the same package as the one found in the pockets of Llanez.

The total weight of the marijuana was approximately 4.5 ounces.

Llanez has been charged with possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and evading arrest or detention.
