ODESSA – One man is dead and another is behind bars following a late night accident in Odessa.
Odessa Police were called out to the 2100 block of East 42nd Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night in reference to a major crash.
An investigation revealed that a red 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer, being driven by 21-year-old Christopher Rene Arreola, was traveling eastbound in the turning lane attempting to turn left. That's when a Harley Davidson, driven by 54-year-old Alonzo Molinar, was traveling westbound on 42nd Street.
According to the report, Arreola failed to yield the right of way and hit Molinar, causing Molinar to be ejected from the motorcycle. Officials say Molinar was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
When officers were talking with Arreola, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Arreola and his vehicle. He also admitted to officers that he had been smoking marijuana.
Arreola has been arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter after failing field sobriety tests.
