Odessa Animal Abuse Suspect in Custody

ODESSA – We have an update to a story NewsWest 9 reported on Tuesday.

Odessa Police were looking for Arasely Venegas after a report of a dog being abused.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, Venegas was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in the 1500 block of Haston.

Odessa Police Department Public Information Officer, Steve LeSueur, explained the crime to NewsWest on Tuesday, "The investigation revealed that Venagas had taped the dogs mouth shut with duct tape and also wrapped tape around the dogs legs and a further investigation revealed that Venagas had snipped off part of the dogs ear with scissors."

The dog was rescued by a local animal rights group and is now safe.

If convicted, Venegas could face up to two years behind bars and $10,000 fine. Police say Venegas also had four other warrants out for her arrest.
