ODESSA - Sometimes it's hard to hide something when you're up to no good, especially when you're wearing pajamas to City Hall in the middle of the day. But that's what one girl tried to do on January 19th after a long road trip from South Carolina.
A city official spotted the hard-to-miss girl in the parking lot of the Odessa City Hall standing next to a 2014 gray Ford Escape. She asked if she could borrow his phone, but instead he led her inside the building so she could use one of those other kinds of phones--you know, the ones that are attached to the wall and there's real buttons on them? Well anyway, that's when we can see her on the surveillance cameras walking in with her arms folded wearing pink pajamas, a white sweatshirt, purple cap, and pink streaks in her bleach blonde hair--at least she's color-coordinating.
"She makes a couple of phone calls and leaves, and later on during the day, the same employee goes back out and the car is still there and looks at it and thinks something just doesn't look right about it so he gives the police department a call," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers said.
As it turns out, the car was reported stolen out of South Carolina--that would explain the pink pajamas. After all, we can't all get dressed up for auto-theft. It would also explain why the car was filled with empty soda cans, bags of chips, and trash. Who eats healthy on a road trip, anyway?
"There was another female with her--we don't have much about her--that was also in the vehicle, and they believe a man came and picked them up from City Hall," Rogers said.
So if you're looking to escape, the Odessa City Hall might not be the best place to dump a stolen vehicle, especially with their crystal clear surveillance cameras.
