ODESSA – Two people are behind bars following an incident on Tuesday in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they conducted a traffic stop in the 1600 block of East 8th Street on a white 1994 white Mercury Grand Marquis.

While police made contact with the driver, 20-year-old Jevon Bell, they could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle and found cocaine near the driver's seat in the vehicle.

According to the report, Bell had his five year old daughter in the backseat at the time of the traffic stop.

Bell was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine.

That's when 29-year-old Ashley Brooks came to pick up Bell's daughter.

As Brooks was loading a car seat into her vehicle, officers could also smell marijuana from her vehicle.

Officers told Brooks not to leave with the vehicle so they could make sure there wasn't any marijuana in the vehicle. However, Brooks got into her vehicle and fled the scene.

We're told that Brooks drove through a parking lot at an unsafe speed before pulling into a parking space and running into a nearby business. That's where they found Brooks inside a restroom.

After a search of Brooks' vehicle, officers found a bag of marijuana inside the center console.

Brooks has been charged with evading in a motor vehicle, endangering a child and possession of marijuana.
