MIDLAND - Midland City Council is hearing more bids on what to do with the old courthouse.

At their meeting on Tuesday, council members heard from the Vandergriff Group Architects on their ideas for the demolition and use of the old Midland County Courthouse, the Midland Executive Center and the Mid-America Building.

The next step is to hear bids for tearing the buildings down.

In the meantime, the asbestos removal will start which will take around three months and tearing the buildings down could take another six months.

But city officials are ready for this new phase of downtown Midland.

"We have several groups that are interested in doing projects downtown so also we want to work with the property owner's downtown to make sure we get all of this out of the way as soon as possible. We wanted to do this last year so we are really excited to have the opportunity to get these buildings down," Midland Mayor, Jerry Morales, said.

The price tag for the demolition will be around $6 million.
