HOUSTON (AP) – El Proveedor de servicios de petróleo Schlumberger Ltd., dice que está recortando 9.000 puestos de trabajo en respuesta a la caída de los precios del petróleo.

La reducción representa aproximadamente 7.3 por ciento de la fuerza laboral total de la empresa con sede en Houston.

Schlumberger mencionó el jueves que se estarán haciendo los recortes de empleos en respuesta a los precios más bajos y anticipando el menor gasto en la exploración y producción en el año 2015. La compañía registró un cargo de $ 296 millones asociado con el movimiento en sus resultados del cuarto trimestre.

El precio del petróleo se ha sumido en los últimos meses debidos en parte a un exceso de petróleo. Los precios han mejorado ligeramente en los últimos días, pero el precio de un barril de petróleo se mantiene por debajo de 50 dólares después de pasar la mayor parte de los últimos cuatro años cerca de 100 dólares.
