ODESSA - With the soaring crime rates in Odessa, it's important everyone is aware of what's going on around them. That's why the Odessa Police Department (OPD) are telling residents about a website called Raidsonline.com

"A lot of citizens want to know what types of crimes are occurring, when they're occurring, where they're occurring, and how they're occurring and this is just an excellent resource to take advantage of," Steve LeSueur, OPD Spokesperson, said.

The website stands for "Regional Analysis and Information Sharing," and is used all across the nation.

Every type of crime that is committed will show up on the website. It can be narrowed down within a certain time range and pinpoint where it's all happening.

"There's a lot of crimes that go on in specific neighborhoods and a lot of people simply aren't aware of them, simply because they don't know that they're occurring. They're either gone or sleeping, or they're away at work," LeSueur said.

Midland Police even use a similar site called CrimeMapping.com. Police departments are hoping this new technology will help reduce the crime rates.

"It can actually prevent crimes because the citizens can communicate among each other and talk about the biggest challenges they're dealing with in that neighborhood," LeSueur said.
