ODESSA – One man is facing charges after being accused of assault by strangulation.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 1100 block of Drury in reference to a disturbance on Sunday.
When officers arrived, a victim reported that she was assaulted by her common-law husband, 33-year-old Raymundo Gonzalez, Jr.
According to the report, the victim told police that after she got into a fight with Gonzalez, he attempted to force her to consume nighttime cough medicine. The victim also stated that she kept her mouth covered with a blanket.
The victim told police that as she was trying to get away from Gonzalez, he pushed her to the ground, choking her with both hands to the point that she couldn't breathe.
Police say a family member who saw the incident called 911.
Gonzalez then fled the scene but was found nearby.
An investigation also revealed that Gonzalez had a prior conviction for assault-family violence out of Andrews County.
Gonzalez has been charged with assault by strangulation.
