MIDLAND COUNTY – The winter weather the Permian Basin has seen over the past day has claimed its first life.
The accident happened on Highway 349 about 34 miles north of Rankin on Tuesday evening.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, a big rig was traveling northbound on Highway 349 when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to driving at an unsafe speed for road conditions and overturned.
The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Lorenzo Cervantes, was killed in the accident.
Road conditions in the area were icy and sleet was falling in the area.
