From the Brewster County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page: 

The BCSO has closed Highway 67 that runs between Alpine to Fort Stockton until further notice. A major power line that supplies power to the Marathon and Terllingua failed due to weather conditions and power company crews are on scene to make repairs. Pct 3, Brewster County Commissioner, Ruben Ortega has stated that although electrical service crews are working diligently to resolve the problem it may take crews until noon tomorrow before power is restored. BCSO will keep you updated as things develop.

From the City of Odessa: Odessa Fire/Rescue and Police are responding to numerous downed power lines and swift water rescues. Residents are encouraged to stay off the streets, especially Tom Green, Muskingum & Dixie between 52nd Street south to 16th Street.Oncor is working to repair the downed lines and feeders.

Numerous power outages are being reported across West Texas. ONCOR is reporting over 3,100 customers without power in Midland. In Odessa, 7,500 customers are without power. For the latest on power outages, go to http://stormcenter.oncor.com.

Sharyland Utilities is reporting numerous power outages as well. They are reporting over 2,100 customers without power in Martin County. In Midland, 811 customers are without power and almost 800 people are without power in Ector County. For the latest on Sharyland Utilities outages, go to http://outages.sharyland.com:83/

Odessa Police is reporting that there are numerous power outages in the City of Odessa and streets are becoming flooded, including streets that don't normally flood. Police are asking residents and drivers to stay away from downed power lines and tree limbs. If you see a power line down, stay away as the line could still be live. Drivers are being asked to stay off the roads.

TRAFFIC ALERT: TXDOT is closing Highway 302 about 15 miles east of Kermit for DPS. Roadway will be closed for a few hours.

From the Odessa Police Department:

Since yesterday at 1 p.m., OPD has responded to approximately 22 crashes inside the city limits.

However, this number is believed to be much higher because a lot of people involved in minor crashes have been referred by Dispatch to the online reporting system.

The lights are currently down on most of Golder, most of Yukon, 42nd and Andrews Highway, 42nd and Tanglewood, and 2nd and Crane.

Please use extreme caution while driving and stay indoors if possible.

The Permian High School soccer teams were scheduled to travel tomorrow (the girls to Brownwood for two games, and the boys to El Paso for two games) but those trips have been cancelled due to hazardous road conditions.

Odessa Police tell us a power outage has affected some traffic signals in the area. The lights at 18th & Golder, 23rd & Golder, 23rd & Grant, 2nd & West County Road and any intersection inside of that perimeter are not working. Drivers need to use those areas at a four way stop.

The Midland Police Department would like to remind citizens to drive with caution or to stay home if possible during icy weather conditions.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, City of Midland Transportation crews are transitioning from ice control to flood control due to additional rains. Low water crossings along Scharbauer and Midland Draws are currently in effect.

Current road closures in Midland:

- Scharbauer Draw low water crossings at Edwards and Barber Streets

- Midland Draw low water crossings at Carver Street, Golf Course Road, Magnolia Avenue and Dormard Avenue.

- All entrances to Loop 250 on portions west of Fairgrounds Road

- Lamesa Road and Cotton Flat Road overpasses at Interstate 20

- Big Spring Street at Front Street overpass

Roads that are now open:

- Highway 191 between FM 1788 and Loop 250

The Midland Police Department had worked 126 accidents since Tuesday at 2 p.m. as of Wednesday at approximately 10 a.m., with eight of those accidents occurring on Wednesday morning.

Motorists are encouraged to take special precautions on bridges and overpasses.

Overall, the number of accidents that have occurred since last night has gone down.

However, officials are urging drivers to remain off the roads throughout the night tonight.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for portions of the NewsWest 9 viewing area until noon on Friday.

IH 20 is now open at Mile Marker 93, westbound.

While both Interstates in West Texas are open, travel is still problematic.

If you can avoid driving, please do so and if you must drive, please reduce speed greatly.

City of Odessa officials tell NewsWest 9, they are having to reach out to private ambulance services due to city EMS crews being backed up due to weather related calls.

Music City Mall in Odessa will be closing at 4 p.m. Midland Park Mall will be open until 6 p.m. tonight.

Wednesday, Dec. 31 - 1:30 p.m.

As of 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Midland police are reporting traffic on Interstate 20 is almost at a standstill in both directions. First responders are working several accidents and reiterate the importance of staying off the roads if possible.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they have now responded to 121 crashes since Tuesday.

City of Odessa offices will be closing early at 1 p.m. Anyone with scheduled court appearances or payments due in Municipal Court have been granted a 10 day extension.

DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, they responded to 97 crashes on Tuesday.

Wednesday, Dec. 31 - 11:05 a.m.

Odessa Police have responded to at least 102 crashes since yesterday (Tuesday) morning just in the Odessa city limits. However, this number is believed to be much higher because there have been multiple crashes at some of these locations. Motorists are advised to drive slow and use extreme caution while on the roadways and to please avoid driving today (Wednesday) and tonight if possible.

Odessa police are closing the intersection of 2nd street and West County road due to icy conditions.

City of Midland has closed Big Spring Street where it passes under Front Street due to icy conditions.

EZ Rider has informed NewsWest 9 that they will be starting at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning. However, that could change depending on weather conditions. We'll keep you up to date as we receive more information on EZ Rider.

Big Spring Fire Chief Craig Ferguson tells KBYG News (6 p.m.) that his EMS crews have been working numerous accidents along I-20 and Highway 87 near Big Spring. Chief Ferguson says road conditions continue to deteriorate due to ice buildup and that he recommends motorists drive very cautiously and that people get home and stay home unless it is an absolute emergency. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the entire region into Wednesday evening and freezing precipitation is expected to continue over the area tonight and Wednesday.

All entrances to Loop 250 in Midland have been closed. Lamesa and Cotton Flat overpasses at Interstate 20 are closed as well.

Business 20 & JBS Parkway in Odessa has been closed. Crews are working to sand the overpass at Second Street & Grandview.

From our friends at KBYG Radio in Big Spring: A multiple vehicle pileup just east of Stanton this hour (4 pm) on I-20 and the accident is affecting traffic in both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Both sides are currently reduced to one lane, according to motorists in that location speaking to KBYG News. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until Wednesday evening. Conditions are continuing to worsen across the area. Icing on bridges and overpasses has already become a problem and will continue through the evening and overnight hours into morning Wednesday.

From the City of Midland: Loop 250 at Highway 191 is closed due to weather conditions in Midland. Midland Police are asking citizens to drive with caution or to stay at home if at all possible. The service road will remain open.

From the City of Odessa: OPD has responded to approximately 20 crashes inside the city limits within the last hour. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution and avoid driving if possible as the roads are icy.

From the City of Midland Facebook Page: The City of Midland is currently assisting TxDOT in shutting down the main lanes of both Highway 191 and Loop 250. The service roads will remain open.

Several roads have been closed in New Mexico. Those roadways include:• US 82 Lovington to State Line

• US 82 Artesia to Cloudcroft

• US 70/380 Roswell to Ruidoso Downs

Numerous accidents are being reported across the Midland/Odessa area. 

NewsWest 9 has learned that there was an accident involving a TXDOT truck but there were was no other information given.

Highway 191 eastbound in Odessa has also been closed due to three accidents on the roadway.

Officials are asking drivers to drive with extreme caution and to give yourself plenty of time to get wherever you are heading.

So far, all Midland County offices as well as the West Texas Food Bank will be closed on Wednesday due to weather. The Food Bank will also be closed the rest of the week due to the holiday.
