ODESSA - Waiting for the ice, sleet and snow to pile up it might be too late to make sure your car is ready for the harsh weather that can come to West Texas. Experts agree that you can never be too prepared to keep your vehicle running the right way all winter long.

"During the winter months, people tend to wait until the last minute to do something,"  Elmi Dalgado, Manager of AutoZone, said.

Simple checks before you get behind the wheel could make all the difference.

Both experts agree, never use water to defrost your windows.

"We get a little rain, it could freeze on your windshield. If you got ice on your windshield, do not pour hot water on it and do not pour any cold water on it," Delgado said.

Simple ice scrapers sell out every year before the first big ice storm and experts say to stock up.

"It's always a good idea to plan ahead. If you don't plan ahead, you'll be left out in the cold, pretty much," Delgado said.

Experts also say to check the air pressure on all four tires before you get on the road.
