ODESSA – One man is behind bars on numerous charges.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, it all started when officers responded to the 5000 block of East 42nd in reference to a disturbance.
Dispatch advised a Hispanic male in an orange shirt was causing a disturbance inside a business.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found 33-year-old Mario Bernal, Jr., who was intoxicated and matched the description of the suspect.
After Bernal was placed into custody for public intoxication, Bernal kicked an officer in the chest and also scratched his arm.
Bernal was taken to Medical Center Hospital for his injuries and was later released and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
As Bernal was being searched at the jail, officers found two bags of a white powdery substance on his person. That substance tested positive for cocaine.
Bernal has been charged with assault on a public servant, prohibited substance in a correctional facility and public intoxication.
