Caught on Camera: Thief Steals Empty Cash Register

ODESSA - Every Texan down in Odessa liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch--I mean, this thief--did not. Now please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too white. Or it could be that his hoodie just didn't look right.

"The suspect throws a red car jack, you know like you jack your tires up with, throws the red jack through the window. It was actually left at the scene," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers explained.

The thief is seen in the video breaking in to Unique Nails & Spa, creeping around the store and going through cabinets, maybe even singing fa-la-la. Perhaps he couldn't find a shade of nail polish to go with his checkered hoodie, because all this Grinch stole was an empty cash register with no goodies.

"You can see him go in, he goes through several cabinets in there and in the end he grabs the entire cash register and exits the building," Rogers said.

With Cindy Lou Who nowhere in sight, he fled the scene in the middle of the night. You're a sneak one, Mr. Grinch.

"He wasn't a ninja, I can tell you that," Rogers said.

Not a ninja at all, leaving behind the red car jack, sneaking around the twinkly lights and a Christmas tree in plain sight. By a stroke of luck, the cameras were on him and his pickup truck.

After causing extensive damage to the door, stealing a cash register with nothing in the drawers, all this man will be getting for Christmas is jail time and a news story about him that rhymes.

After all, maybe thieves shouldn't break in to stores. Maybe thieves, perhaps, should just work a little bit more.

If you think you recognize this man, please call Odessa Crime Stoppers at 333-TIPS and you may get a cash reward.
