REEVES COUNTY – A California man is dead and another person was injured in a rollover accident on Friday.
The accident happened on Interstate 10, about 21 miles west of Balmorhea.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9 the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east approaching the I-10 and I-20 split when the driver realized they were in the wrong lane and attempted to cross all lanes of eastbound traffic and continue east on I-10.
Officials say the Suburban drove over loose gravel and began to skid across the road, went into a barrow ditch and rolled.
A passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Edgar Aviles Sanchez of Salinas, California, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Reeves County Hospital where he later died.
The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Deysi Sotoguijosa, also from Salinas, California, was injured in the accident but her condition hasn't been released.
