MIDLAND - A murder-suicide between a husband and a wife, a tragedy that is difficult for many to understand.

Midland Police say it all started with a 911 call with no one on the other end that originated from a home in the 400 block of Crenshaw Drive. That's where they found 34-year-old Sgt. Chad Simpson from the the Midland Police Department dead from a gunshot wound. His wife, 32-year-old Sandra Simpson, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where she later died.

The scene was handed over to the Odessa Police Department and Texas Rangers will be completing the investigation.

Midland Police say Sgt. Simpson most recently worked in the traffic division and had been employed with the department for more than nine years, also serving patrol and K-9 assignments throughout his career.

Friends say that Sandra Simpson worked at the Midland Women's Clinic.

The Simpson's leave behind two twin toddlers who are now being taken care of by extended family.

MPD issued a statement on their Facebook page saying: "Last night's events have hit the MPD family extremely hard. We are all shocked, saddened and searching for answers ourselves as we cope with what happened. All we know to do right now is to help the two young children left behind from this tragedy."
