ODESSA – One man is behind bars following a weekend stabbing in Odessa.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they responded to 16th Street and West County Road on Sunday night in reference to the stabbing.
Dispatch was advised the complainant was chasing the suspect through an alley in the 1600 block of North County Road West.
When officers arrived, they found a man with a knife in his right hand. Officers saw that the blade had blood on the knife.
That's when 49-year-old Kevin Dougherty was detained by officers.
An investigation revealed that Dougherty got into a fight with a 41-year-old male. Following the fight, Dougherty left the bar and waited for the man he got into the fight with to leave the bar.
When the victim left the bar, Dougherty stabbed the victim with a knife on the left side of his chest.
The victim was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury.
