MIDLAND - Dozens of workers from an apartment company are helping the High Sky Children's Ranch with some renovations on Thursday.

About 100 employees from Weidner Apartment Homes were out at the ranch to work on several big projects.

It's all part of the "Weidner Cares" program which encourages community service work for non-profit groups.

The company says the program was created after they did a survey of workers about 18 months ago.

That's when employees expressed their desire to give back to the community and Weidner management chose to honor their request.

"We've had the opportunity to partner with many different non-profits, and it really does our company's heart good. We think it's important for our people to not only work at our communities and fix our apartments, but to be out in the community doing things for folks who are doing things for the community itself," Greg Cerbana, Director of Public Relations with Weidner Apartment Homes, said.

The company has also done work in several other states including Colorado, Alaska, and Arizona.

They are planning to take the program international next year when they travel to Canada to assist non-profit groups.
