Recent felony arrests by the Odessa Police Department for December 11, 2014.
39-year-old Shane Lee Kunckle and 37-year-old Tanya Ann Aragon

Odessa Police arrested Kunckle on 12-10-14 at approximately 0830 hours for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle "State Jail Felony", Possession of a Firearm by a Felon "3rd Degree Felony", Possession of Methamphetamine "State Jail Felony", and Tampering with an Identification Number "Class A Misdemeanor".

Odessa Police also arrested Aragon for Possession of Methamphetamine "State Jail Felony" and Possession of a Controlled Substance "Class A Misdemeanor". Officers responded to the Westwood Square Apartments (2950 Pleasant Avenue) in reference to an attempt to locate involving possible burglary suspects loading stolen items into a car.

Upon arrival, officers observed a blue 2014 Kia Forte, which matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Officers observed a male subject sitting in the front passenger seat and female subject standing next to the driver's door. Officers observed the male subject to be holding a bag a white substance inside, which later tested positive for methamphetamine.

The male subject was identified as Kunckle and the female subject as Aragon. While making contact with both subjects, officers could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers searched the listed vehicle and discovered a handgun behind the driver's seat. The serial number had been shaved off on the bottom of the gun.

Officers searched Kunckle and discovered an insurance card that belonged to a 1999 GMC Sonoma, which had been reported stolen earlier that day. Officers also located a key inside his front left pocket that belonged to the stolen vehicle. Officers contacted the State of Nevada, who advised Kunckle had felony charges for burglaries and assault on a peace officer.

Officers searched Aragon and discovered a marijuana syringe and prescription pills that had not been prescribed to her. Officers later found Aragon to be in possession of a marijuana pipe and methamphetamine. Both subject were charged and arrested accordingly.

The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner. Multiple stolen checkbooks and credit cards were also located and determined to be stolen. A Hitachi Grinder, two green razor scooters, and miscellaneous tools were also located. Some of the stolen property was returned to their owners. The rest of the property was turned into Criminalistics and will be held until the owners can be located.

44-year-old Eddie Mendoza and 42-year-old Billy Lance Buford

Odessa Police arrested Buford and Mendoza on 12-10-14 at approximately 1335 hours for Possession of Cocaine, a State Jail Felony. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a red Mercury Mystique in the 1000 block of East Monahans. The driver was identified as Mendoza and the front passenger as Buford.

Officers asked Mendoza to exit the listed vehicle and conducted a pat down for officer safety. While conducting the pat down, officers felt a metal object in the Mendoza's front right pocket. Based on the officer's training and experience, they believe the item to be a crack pipe.

Officers searched Mendoza and located two crack pipes, one spoon, and five used syringes inside his pockets. Officers searched Buford and discovered two used syringes inside his pockets. Officers searched the listed vehicle and discovered cocaine on the floor in front of the driver's seat and more cocaine on the front passenger seat.

Officers also discovered cocaine between the front passenger seat and center console and more in the center of the dash by the cigarette lighter. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, both subjects were charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC.

40-year-old Joel Bravo Rubio and 35-year-old George Blanco

Odessa Police arrested Rubio and Blanco on 12-8-14 at approximately 1342 hours for Aggravated Robbery, a 1st Degree Felony. Officers responded to 4201 North JBS Parkway (Wal-Mart East) in reference to an aggravated robbery. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Wal-Mart personnel, who advised he observed two male subjects concealing jewelry and sporting goods inside a bag.

Wal-Mart personnel then observed both suspects exit the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. When Wal-Mart personnel confronted the two suspects about the stolen merchandise, one of the subjects pulled out a knife and threatened the Wal-Mart employee, placing them in fear for their life. Wal-Mart personnel then advised officers that both suspects got into a maroon Honda Pilot before fleeing the scene.

Officers immediately placed an attempt to locate on the listed vehicle. An OPD officer, who was on an unrelated call near 10th and Adams, observed a maroon Honda Pilot occupied two times. The officer became suspicious and conducted a traffic stop on the listed vehicle at 9th and Pittsburgh. Both subjects, identified as Rubio and Franco, were immediately detained for further investigation.

A show-up was conducted and the Wal-Mart employee positively identified Rubio and Franco as the same two who had committed the robbery. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, both subjects were charged and arrested accordingly. The stolen property was located in the maroon Honda Pilot and returned to Wal-Mart.

35-year-old Stanley Gufnay

Odessa Police arrested Gufnay on 12-9-14 at approximately 0910 hours for Manufacture or Delivery of Methamphetamine, a 2nd Degree Felony. Officers responded to the area of Oakwood and Grandview in reference to male subject asleep behind the wheel of a silver Jeep stopped in the left turning lane.

Upon arrival, officers observed a silver Jeep Liberty at Oakwood and Grandview matching the suspect vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Gufnay. Officers observed a digital scale and a bag containing several smaller individual baggies, sitting on the front passenger seat.

Officers searched the listed vehicle and discovered five bags of a crystal like substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. Approximately 2.4 grams of methamphetamine was seized as evidence. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Gufnay was charged and arrested accordingly.

20-year-old Kelby Young

Odessa Police arrested Young on 12-9-14 at approximately 1725 hours for Possession of Methamphetamine, a State Jail Felony. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a white 2011 Ford truck in the 2900 block of Brentwood. The front passenger was identified as Young. Officers searched the listed vehicle and discovered a back pack on the floor where Young had been sitting.

Officers searched the backpack and discovered a digital scale, many small individual baggies, and small container containing a clear crystal like substance. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Young was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC.

31-year-old Michelle Woods

Odessa Police arrested Woods on 12-10-14 at approximately 0343 hours for Hindering Apprehension "3rd Degree Felony", Resisting Arrest "Class A Misdemeanor", Evading Arrest "Class A Misdemeanor", Theft By Check "Class B Misdemeanor", and Parent Contributing "Class C Misdemeanor".

Officers responded to 25th and Buchannan in reference to a suspicious vehicle that was possibly committing auto burglaries. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Dodge Charger, which immediately fled the scene at a high rate of speed once it saw the OPD patrol unit.

The vehicle then traveled eastbound on University and then northbound on Golder, where another officer advised they observed the listed vehicle turn southbound onto Alleghany. Officers then observed the listed vehicle run a red light at University and Golder. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the listed vehicle at Kermit and Golder.

However, the listed vehicle evaded police and fled the scene northwest on Kermit Highway. Officers then lost sight of the vehicle as it turned south onto Beaty. Another third OPD officer located the listed vehicle in the 1200 block of West 24th Street, which was already parked on the street. Officers then observed a female subject immediately exit the listed vehicle and flee the scene on foot.

Officers chased the female subject into an alley and eventually located her hiding behind a tree in the backyard of a vacant residence. The female subject, identified as Woods, had four outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant for Hindering Apprehension. Woods was charged and arrested accordingly. The investigation continues.

54-year-old Antonio Martinez

Odessa Police arrested Martinez on 12-10-14 at approximately 2200 hours for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More, a 3rd Degree Felony. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2008 Ford Expedition in the 1600 block of North County Road West. The driver was identified as Martinez.
