Police Warn of Robberies During Holiday Shopping.

by Justin Kree

Two apartment complex's where people where robbed at gunpoint are only feet away from popular holiday shopping destinations.

"A male subject will approach the victim from the front and display a handgun. They will demand all of their money and property. A second suspect will approach the victim from behind and in some incidents assault the victim and take all their money and property," LeSueur said.

Steve LeSueur with Odessa Police says one robbery happened at the Arbor Point Apartments and another at the Brittany Place Apartments.

Police tell NewsWest 9, they believe all of the robberies are related. The suspects are attacking when the victim is alone.

Since the robberies happened so close to malls and other stores, police suggests not to shop by yourself.

"People are going to be shopping and spending money, so it's a good idea to shop in pairs or groups," LeSueur said.

If you happen to come face to face with these suspects, police offer helpful tips.

"One of the best things to do is make a lot of noise. Whether it's a car alarm you can sound off, or screaming. If you're at the mall they have off-duty police officers that work there so you can always request one of them to walk you to your vehicle if necessary," LeSueur said.

In all four recent robberies, the suspects were described as black men, between the ages of 18 and 24 and between 5'5" and 6' tall. They are thin build wearing jeans and dark colored hoddies partially covering their face.

The suspects have only approached their victims in apartment parking lots. However, police say it could happen anywhere this time of year.

"A lot of these thieves will stake out their victims. They will be waiting in parking lots and they'll observe from the point of the victim arriving at their destination and watching them as they get out of their vehicle," LeSueur said.

These suspects are considered to be armed and dangerous.

If you have any information on these suspects you are asked to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at 333-tips.
