Shoppers Take on Early Black Friday Shopping on Thanksgiving

MIDLAND - On your mark, get set, go! Shoppers once again braved the crowds and chilly weather to get to those door-busting deals. This year, it all started on Thanksgiving, something the shoppers are calling "Grey Thursday."

Kitchen tables were swamped with ads on Thanksgiving morning and by late evening, everyone was stuffed with turkey--a good source of protein--and ready to shop.

"You can feel the hustle and bustle going on inside the mall and it's a lot of fun. We really look forward to this time of year," Lyndsey Kees, Director of Marketing and Business Development at the Midland Park Mall, said.

Shoppers lined up outside of various stores, such as Target, Best Buy, and the Midland Park Mall, waiting for the doors to open to grab those deals. The first people in line at Best Buy in Midland have even been camping out since Tuesday.

"This is our fourth year doing it and really it's just that they started it once and we all just started joining along. It's just something fun, something fun to do and it turned into something we take a little serious," Luis Estrada said.

Some go for the experience, others have a plan.

"It's like with the Xbox One you get two games and a gift card with it," James Ker said.

"My daughter wants sweaters and sweats," Michelle Yapp said.

"and the tv's like a hundred can't beat that," Ker said.

The electronics and appliances are hung from a shelf with care. Shopping to the beat of Christmas music sure puts the extra hop in your step as you wander around, tracking down those savings.

"You gotta talk it up. Like when they get in, you gotta be excited so your team will be excited and then the customers will be excited," Chad Brannon, Manager of Oakley in the Midland Park Mall, said.

Before you know it, you're walking out in record-setting time, countless bags hanging from fingers, every last pinky giving it their all.

Congratulations, you survived Grey Thursday.
