BIG SPRING - New renovations to the Comanche Park will allow the "big" spring to be flowing down the rocks very soon.

The budget amendment that was approved last night was the amount that we need to pay the professional services for the landscape architect that will be working on this project," Big Spring Community Service Director, Debbie Wegman said.

The final project will cost a lot more than the $20,000 that was approved by the city council, but the city assures no taxes will go up.

"This project will be funded by hotel-motel tax through the convention and visitors bureau," Wegman said.

The tax is legislative to help bring visitors into town. After the project is done, the spring will be back to what it looked like years ago.

"We want to keep the history. That is what this is about. The spring is about the history of our community and we want to showcase that. We want to make this a destination when people come to Big Spring," Wegman said.

The goal is to keep some of the current sights around the trail for life-long residents to keep enjoying.

"I'm excited because they need to fix it up. We got kids around here and everything. Just to show the historical part of the spring and bring it back to life," Resident, Jerry Duffer said.

There's no word on when construction will start. But Wegman said the look will be breath taking.

"People can come and read about the history of Big Spring and the history of the Spring and how our community came to be," Wegman said.
