MIDLAND - There's a brand new place for single parents and their children to stay at in Midland.
A ribbon cutting was held for two new apartments and an activity center at Buckner Family Place in Midland.
The apartments will provide a safe place for single-parent families to live who have gone through hard times such as domestic violence.
Eight units are available and the only requirement that Buckner International has of the parent is that they go to college and get an Associate's Degree.
They say they provide so much more than just housing though.
"So, there's encouragement, support, counseling, spiritual development. Everything that a mom would need to sort of restart her family and have a chance at being self-sustaining. Not dependent on other programs for the rest of their lives, so it's a real victory to see what happens here every day," Albert Reyes, President/CEO of Buckner International, said.
Tuesday's event also marked the grand opening of Cameron's playground.
One of the family's children named Cameron passed away and the playground is in memory of him for kids to have fun.
