Hobbs Police Investigating Deadly Shooting

HOBBS, N.M. – Hobbs Police are investigating following a deadly shooting.

The shooting happened in the 500 block of East Sanger just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Hobbs Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out in reference to a shots fired call.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 16-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound.

The 16-year-old was taken to Lea Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim's identity has not yet been released and the body will be sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for an autopsy.

Detectives are conducting interviews and processing the scene for evidence.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area of Sanger Street between Houston Street and Dal Paso Street.
