ODESSA - Winter is approaching and while some may be excited about the colder weather, those who are less fortunate are dreading it.

An Odessa ministry is making it their mission to give back to those in need.

"It's Faith Temple Fellowship and my title is the pastor and we run a non-profit called Jesus House Odessa," Donny Kyker, Pastor with Faith Temple Fellowship Church, said.

During the coldest days of winter, the church takes in homeless individuals that have nothing but the clothes on their backs.

"Basically we go out under the cover of darkness and the gentlemen, ladies and we've even heard some children (we haven't found them yet) are living out on the streets," Kyker said.

"I've been homeless off and on now for a while but Lord have mercy, (if) the weather wasn't so bad you know, I slept outside and it's cold," Robert Palmer, said.

These last few days have indeed been cold. That's why the church finds it important to give the homeless the things they need the most.

"So what we do is hand out lots of, lots of love is what we call it," Kyker said.

"Something I need, he's talking about a backpack a sleeping bag. You know toothbrush, toothpastes, you know your essentials," Palmer said.

Other items the church hands out are blankets, socks, underwear and hand warmers.

"Just mainly even tarps or tents if we know bad weather is coming. So we always take out hot food, coffee, hot chocolate. You know anything to really warm them up," Kyker said.

And these winter necessities are not just given to anyone.

"Not the ones who can afford it. You know what I mean? The one's that really need the help. That's our first priority right now is keeping people alive," Kyker said.

"I do this thing called life, and I do it the best I can with hope and faith, Amen. Yeah, that's all I have", said Robert Palmer
