UPTON COUNTY – A Mason, Texas, man is dead and three other people are recovering following a multi-vehicle accident on Monday.
The accident happened on Highway 349 about 28 miles north of Rankin around 6 a.m.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, two semi-trailers from a prior crash were blocking the northbound lane of Highway 349. That's when a 2007 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound used faulty evasive action to miss the semi-trailers, drove onto the wrong side of the road and struck a 2014 Ford pickup that was traveling southbound.
The driver of the Toyota, 52-year-old Alfredo Torrez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people inside the Ford F-150 pickup, 27-year-old Octavio Herrera, 19-year-old Angel Herrera and 30-year-old Rigoberto Herrera, all of Chicago, Illinois, were injured in the accident and taken to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment.
