New Mexico Highway Closed Following Spill

HOBBS, N.M. – Highway 180 west of Hobbs has been closed following a tanker truck rollover.

New Mexico State Police tell NewsWest 9, a tanker truck was turning onto Highway 180 from Campbell Road and overturned.

The truck was carrying 3,400 gallons of Sodium Hydroxide and officials say an estimated 2,000 gallons spilled onto the road.

A HAZMAT crew from Odessa has been called in to clean up the spill.

The highway is expected to be closed until Sunday afternoon and drivers will need to find an alternate route.

The driver of the truck wasn't injured.
