Odessa Police Department Press Release
26-Year-Old Alex James Rodriguez
Odessa Police arrested Rodriguez on 11-4-14 at approximately 1630 hours for Theft of Property with at Least Two Prior Convictions, a State Jail Felony. Officers responded to 2450 NW Loop 338 (Wal-Mart West) in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Wal-Mart personnel, who advised they observed a male subject conceal several items and exit the store without making any attempt to pay for them.
The suspect was identified as Rodriguez, who advised officers that he did have money to pay for the items but decided not to pay for them. The items consisted of cell phone chargers, lotion, and a windbreaker jacket. All of the items were returned to Wal-Mart. Investigation revealed Rodriguez had multiple prior theft convictions. Rodriguez was charged and arrested accordingly.
34-Year-Old Gilberto Murillo
Odessa Police arrested Murillo on 11-5-14 at approximately 2128 hours for Possession of Cocaine “3rd Degree Felony” and Tampering with Physical Evidence “3rd Degree Felony”. Officers observed a white Ford F-350 traveling southbound on Roxanna at a high rate of speed before turning onto to West Clements.
As officers approached the listed vehicle, a computer check revealed that the license plate was expired. Officers activated their red and blue emergency lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the listed vehicle, but it continued westbound on Clements at a slow rate of speed.
The listed vehicle proceeded for about two blocks before finally stopping in the 1200 block of South Texas. The driver was identified as Murillo. Officers observed a white powdery substance on the right shoulder of Murillo, which appeared to be cocaine. Murillo advised officers that there was no cocaine inside his vehicle.
However, officers searched the listed vehicle and discovered several white rocks on the driver's seat and also discovered a white powdery substance on the front floor boards, the back floor boards, and on top of the center console. Officers found evidence that Murillo attempted to destroy cocaine all throughout the vehicle.
Al of the white rocks were field-tested and came back positive for cocaine. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Murillo was charged and arrested accordingly. Approximately 3.9 grams of cocaine was seized and collected as evidence.
47-Year-Old Roger John Gillen
Odessa Police located and arrested Gillen on 11-3-14 at approximately 2020 hours in the 900 block of North Texas. Investigation revealed Gillen had a felony parole violation warrant out of Randall County for Robbery “Second Degree Felony” with no bond. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Gillen was charged and arrested accordingly.
