MIDLAND – ONCOR is making sure the Basin has plenty of electricity in this boom.
The company is spending $1 billion to improve their electric grid.
It's all because of the fast-growing population here in the basin from the oil boom.
The company says the new project will help growing demand.
“I think what we're trying to do is add some additional capacity and make sure we have flexibility. I think this provides additional capability both for high peak demand as well as when we need to take things out of service and things like that. So, any addition to the grid is going to help the resilience," ONCOR Chief Operating Officer, Jim Greer, said.
ONCOR says they'll start working on the project early next year.
