MIDLAND - A former Midland College professor will spend the next year behind bars.
Former commercial truck driving instructor Michael Sanchez was sentenced to a year and one day for fraud.
He stole more than $36,000 from nine students.
Sanchez pulled off the scam by having students pay him directly for the training course, instead of the school.
He then told students they were enrolled in the CDL course but they weren't and the college never saw the money.
The cost of the course was $4,100.
The scam went on for a year and a half.
In addition to jail time, Sanchez will have to pay $32,000 in restitution to the college.
