MIDLAND - The Midland Chamber of Commerce held their fourth annual State of the Economy luncheon on Thursday.
City officials and Chamber of Commerce members came together to discuss key factors affecting our economy.
Guest speakers included Congressman Mike Conaway.
Conaway spoke about the Basin's low unemployment rates and the continued growth of the workforce.
One of the biggest topics Conaway also touched on was the booming oil industry.
"This dramatic turnaround from a declining oil production to an increase in oil production is stunning. It's not been five or six years where anybody thought that could happen and it has based on the hard work and risk taking that the good men and women who I get to represent in West Texas have done,” Conaway said.
Conaway also encourages West Texans to get out there and vote in the November elections because their vote could affect the oil and gas industry here.
